Texas law limits how far HOAs can go on certain roofing products. Section 202.011 of the Texas Property Code generally prevents property owners' associations from banning shingles that are designed to resist wind and hail, provide heating and cooling efficiency, or generate solar energy, as long as the shingles resemble or are comparable to the shingles already used in the community and meet the association's other standards. In practice, this means your HOA usually cannot block impact-resistant shingles just because they are a different product. The details depend on your HOA's documents, so read them or ask the HOA if you are unsure.
